Breaking: A Turkish Airlines Boeing 737 Crash Lands In Odessa

A Turkish Airlines Boeing 737 has skidded off the runway while trying to land at Odessa Airport. The incident happened this evening, resulting in what appears to be a collapse of the plane’s nose gear.

What happened?

Flight TK 467 was arriving from Istanbul but according to reports from the scene, the Boeing 737-800 missed its approach at Odessa before circling over the airport. The aircraft then skidded off the runway during its second attempt.

There are no reports of injuries to any of the crew or passengers. However, the airliner remains grounded with the return flight reported to be canceled. Despite freezing temperatures, the weather conditions in Odessa are currently dry with some winds. It remains unclear what caused the event.

Troubles at the airport

Incidentally, this is not the first nose gear issue to occur at Odessa Airport today. During the afternoon, the airport was closed amid an incident involving a corporate jet.

Reportedly, all of those on board were evacuated from the aircraft safely.

Odessa is the third most populous city in Ukraine. Its easterly location on the Black Sea makes it a go-to spot for tourists in the country. The city’s airport is a key location for low-cost carrier SkyUp and Ukrainian International Airlines.

Busy times for Turkish Airlines

Turkish Airlines has had a busy month as it continues to expand its network. It recently announced it will add a fourth route to China before the end of 2019. The carrier will provide nonstop from Istanbul to Xi’an, the capital of Shaanxi province.

Additionally, the firm shared that from next summer, it will fly to Newark from Istanbul. This daily flight will depart Istanbul at 18:35 and arrive in Newark on the same day at 22:30. Thereafter, the return from Newark will depart at 00:25 before arriving back in Turkey at 17:10. All times are local.
