Air Canada announced the introduction of a new route from Bogotá to Montreal. The year-round service will start operating on June 2, 2020, with flights three times a week.
Air Canada is to offer three weekly flights between Montreal Trudeau (YUL) and Bogotá (BOG), the company announced on Wednesday. Flights will be available three times a week onboard Air Canada Rouge’s Boeing 767-300ER aircraft. Passengers will have a choice of economy and premium service.
“We are very pleased to offer the only non-stop, year-round flights connecting Montreal and Bogotá, two vibrant cities steeped in history and culture. This new route complements our existing Toronto-Bogotá service and positions Air Canada as a significant player linking the growing markets between Montreal and Colombia’s capital and largest city,” said Mark Galardo, Vice President of Network Planning at Air Canada in a press release.
A new service for Aéroports de Montréal
The launch of the new route illustrates Air Canada’s commitment to transform Montreal into an even more international hub. President and CEO of Aéroports de Montréal Philippe Rainville said in a statement,
“For several years now, Aéroports de Montréal has been wanting to improve service from YUL to destinations in South America. While a flight to Sao Paolo will be inaugurated in a few weeks, Air Canada is doubling the stakes by adding this new direct connection to Bogotá, Colombia. In addition to greatly facilitating air travel for members of Montreal’s very large Colombian community, this announcement once again affirms YUL’s role as a hub for international air traffic.”
Air Canada’s presence in Montreal
Air Canada has launched 39 new routes from the Montreal-Trudeau airport since 2013, including Casablanca, Algiers, Bucharest, Sao Paolo, Tokyo, Tel Aviv, and Toulouse (launching 2020).
As The Points Guy notes, Air Canada may want to replicate the success they had connecting U.S.-bound travelers to international destinations via the Toronto Pearson airport. Montreal would make a perfect base for that kind of growth.
Other international routes from Montreal announced for 2020 include Seatle in May and Toulouse in June. The Seatle route will be the first one operated by the Airbus A220-300, which recently joined Air Canada.
Air Canada has served over 10 million passengers at Montreal-Trudeau in 2018.
What will be the schedule of the flights?
Flight AC1952 will depart every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from Montreal to Botogtá, while return flight AC1953 is set to depart on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from Bogotá to Montreal.
Flights are timed to connect to partner Avianca’s network to other South American destinations including Cali, Cartagena, Medellin, Cuzco, Lima, and Quito.
An introductory fare is available, starting at $795 roundtrip and tickets are already available for purchase.
