AirNav RadarBox has announced this week that Augmented Reality (AR) has been added to its tracking systems as part of the next step in its development.
Augmented Reality uses the camera built into your phone and displays aircraft in the vicinity of your area, depending on where you point it.
What the feature looks like
In the above image, you can see flight SG493, which is flying between Bangalore and Darbhanga at an altitude of 22,000 feet at 420kts ground speed. The augmented reality feature also shows information about the flight, including the aircraft, the registration, and the airline that is operating the flight.
Another interesting feature of the augmented reality system is that you can change the range of aircraft visibility. This is a useful addition, as the weather can be clear enough to see some aircraft in the air from further away, offering flexibility to users. From there, it also tells you how many aircraft are in the visible range set by the user too.
