Turkish Airlines launching Vancouver Service

After some speculation, Turkish Airlines has now added Vancouver to its route network. This will be the airline’s third city in Canada. Flights will launch on June 9, 2020 according to a Turkish Airlines release. Here is the flight schedule:

  • TK075 from IST to YVR departs at 14:05 and arrives at 15:50
  • TK075 from YVR to IST departs at 17:20 and lands at 14:50

All times are local. Flights will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays. Flights from Istanbul land in Vancouver on the same day. Meanwhile, Vancouver to Istanbul flights arrive in Istanbul the next day. Turkish Airlines will use a Boeing 787-9 on this route according to Routesonline.

This new Vancouver service will complement the airline’s existing Canadian services to Toronto and Montreal. Toronto sees six weekly frequencies to Istanbul on Turkish Airlines. Meanwhile, Montreal is served with thrice-weekly nonstop flights with a Boeing 787 coming soon.

The Boeing 787-9

One of the most hotly-anticipated aircraft from 2019 was Turkish Airlines’ Boeing 787-9. The aircraft features an all-new business class seat although Turkish Airlines may look at replacing that seat.

With space for 30 business class passengers and 270 in economy, Turkish Airlines is adding some great capacity between Western Canada and Istanbul. In addition, the 787 also flies to other destinations in North America like Atlanta, Mexico City, Cancun, and Washington D.C. among other global destinations.

Thanks to the aircraft’s incredible fuel efficiency, the 787 has made it more economical for airlines to launch a host of new routes. Other notable 787-9 routes include Qantas’ service from Perth to London-Heathrow. And, later this year, Air New Zealand will launch service from Auckland to Newark-Liberty using a 787-9

Turkish Airlines’ route map is growing

With this new service, Turkish Airlines is still on a road for growth. Although the airline already has an incredibly expansive route network and flies to more countries than any other airline in the world, there is room for the airline to continue to grow. With new aircraft on order and pending delivery, only time will tell how much Turkish Airlines will grow.

Overall

This marks another step forward for Turkish Airlines. With this new service to Vancouver, passengers will have access to more one-stop destinations. Although only thrice-weekly, this is a good way for Turkish Airlines to add a new service without going all-in.  However, if the route is immensely successful, Turkish Airlines could increase service to the city.
